Roskilde Festival

Roskilde Festival is the largest music and culture event in Northern Europe. Launched in 1971, Roskilde Festival has grown steadily in popularity and size. The festival now attracts some 80,000 people annually from all over the world who come to enjoy a diverse mix of music, arts, activism – and camping just outside Denmark’s first capital city, Roskilde.
Skagen Festival
Place: Skagen. Dates: 4 July – 7 July 2024
The Skagen Music Festival is Denmark's oldest music festival. Experience the atmosphere and the many excellent Danish and foreign bands, songwriters and troubadours that help make the festival truly unique. The Skagen Music Festival takes place at several locations in picturesque Skagen.
6th of July Days
Place: Fredericia. Dates: TBD
Fredericia draws in the red-white colours and drives the guns in position for some exciting days celebrating the historic battle of Fredericia on the 6th of July 1849. The programme offers a lot of exciting activities. From tasty street food to cosy stalls and street theatre, folk dancers, and musicians.
Hindsgavl Festival
Place: Hindsgavl Castle in Middelfart. Dates: 2 – 9 July 2024
Hindsgavl Festival is one of Europe's leading international classical chamber music festivals - with a touch of brand new music. It takes place over eight days, where musicians and audiences live side by side in the beautiful surroundings of Hindsgavl Castle.
Jels Viking Pageant
Place: Jels. Dates: 5 July – 21 July 2024
Burning romance, formidable fencing battles, and colourful scenes performed by hundreds of volunteers create a unique experience at Jels Viking pageant every summer. The high trees around the open-air scene with Jels Nedersø in the background create an extraordinary stage for the play, which has taken place since 1977.
Vig Festival
Place: Vig. Dates: 10 – 13 July 2024
Vig Festival is a party for the whole family, with three intense festival days in a pleasant atmosphere with bold live music by well-known Danish names in rock, pop, R&B and entertainment. The festival has several venues, restaurants and large campsites amidst the scenic UNESCO Global Geopark Odsherred.
Aarhus Jazz Festival
Place: Aarhus. Dates: 13 – 20 July 2023
Aarhus hosts 300 jazz concerts at 30 different venues for eight days straight, presenting local and international talent. Jazz bands and orchestras, big and small, will be playing all genres of jazz on big stages and in more intimate spaces and cafés. Most of the daytime concerts are free.
Tilting Festival
Place: Sønderborg Dates: Various dates throughout the summer
For something truly local, the annual Tilting Festival in South Jutland is a long-standing tradition the region is extremely proud of. Established in 1888, it is the greatest and largest rider tournament of its kind in northern Europe!
Samsø Festival
Place: Samsø. Dates: 17 – 20 July 2024
Since 1990, the quaint island of Samsø has held Denmark’s cosiest music festival. The festival offers many great musical experiences and a pleasant atmosphere. Located in a forest and close to the beach, you can also take a dip in the sea and enjoy beautiful nature in between the concerts.
Maribo Jazz
Place: Maribo. Dates: 18 – 21 July 2024
This is, perhaps, Denmark's friendliest jazz festival, staged in the historic town of Maribo in Lolland-Falster and presenting classic jazz, New Orleans, swing, and big band. More than 120 musicians gather at over 18 venues, attracting around 3,000 visitors annually.
Cherry Festival
Place: Kerteminde. Dates: 19 – 21 July 2024
Northeast Funen is known for its long tradition of growing cherries. As a praise to the sweet berry, a festival is held each year in its honour. With the motto “watch, listen and taste”, the charming city of Kerteminde invites you to join the celebrations that offer exciting musical, culinary and cultural experiences.
Ovnhus Market
Place: Nykøbing, Sjælland. Dates: 26 – 28 July 2024
A market centred around all things hand-crafted. Hosting over 70 professional arts and crafts artisans and designers, they primarily offer different kinds of jewellery, ceramics and textile items.
Smuk Fest Festival
Place: Skanderborg. Dates: 4 – 11 August 2024
Smuk Fest is a three day celebration of music, love, life and togetherness. Located in a beautiful beech forest, it is often referred to as ‘Denmark’s Most Beautiful Festival’. The festival covers many styles of music, such as rock, pop, folk, heavy metal, hip-hop and electronic.
O/Day Fest
Place: Copenhagen. Dates: 1 – 3 August 2024
A festival for creative minds, enjoy three days of music, design, drinks and food – all from the creators of ÅBEN, a young Danish craft brewery. Nestled in Refshaleøen in Copenhagen, this festival promises to go beyond your usual music experiences.
Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix
Place: Copenhagen. Dates: 2 – 4 August 2024
Copenhagen Historic Grand Prix is a classic car race in Copenhagen with action, full-speed drama and entertainment for the whole family. CHGP is staged every year over a weekend, where historic race cars, famous race drivers, many Danish icons, and international stars are celebrated.
Copenhagen Summer Festival
Place: Copenhagen: Dates: 4 – 15 August 2024
Each year, the Copenhagen Summer Festival presents a handful of young talents in a range of classical chamber music concerts in the beautiful surroundings of Charlottenborg in Kongens Nytorv, central Copenhagen. Since 1969, this festival has paved the way for many professional breakthroughs for a handpicked crowd of musically gifted and upcoming artists.
Aarhus Food Festival
Place: Aarhus. Dates: 6 – 8 September 2024
Aarhus’ famous Food Festival is a unique experience that introduces you to some of Denmark's best ingredients and food minds. The festival includes a long lineup of cooking schools, where you can learn about Danish cuisine, from bread baking to soaking your own snaps, and a number of the best Danish food companies will be there to show their products and teach you their skills.
Randers Week
Place: Randers. Dates: 9 – 17 August 2024
Randers' citizens, associations and cultural actors are behind this week-long festival, where guests can come and explore over one hundred musical, cultural and culinary events. The idea behind this festival is that everyone is welcome to attend, enjoy, and experience the city's vibrancy.
Copenhagen Pride Week
Place: Copenhagen. Dates: 10 – 18 August 2024
Each year in August, Copenhagen Pride offers activities where LGBTQ+ issues are at the centre of attention. During Pride Week, plenty of activities take place in the capital, with the City Hall Square - renamed Pride Square - the focal point of action.
Mackerel Festival
Place: Sjællands Odde. Dates: 16 – 18 August 2024
A harbour party with relaxed gatherings, good food and lots of angling stories, Odsherred Sportfiskerforening and VisitOdsherred each year arrange the Mackerel Festival on Odden Havn. The programme includes the mandatory skipper meeting, auctions and the Danish Championship in Mackerel Fishing.
Wonderfestiwall
Place: Bornholm. Dates: 15 – 18 August 2024
Wonderfestiwall offers excellent music and charm in Bornholm’s beautiful countryside. Wonderfestiwall is one of Denmark’s most intimate festivals with its own unique setting, at the foot of Northern Europe’s biggest castle ruin, Hammershus, with breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea.
KMD Ironman
Place: Copenhagen. Dates: 18 August 2024
Enjoy a spectator-filled course through historic Copenhagen, where you will pass by iconic Copenhagen places like The Little Mermaid and Nyhavn. With around 3,000 participants and 150,000 spectators, KMD Ironman Copenhagen has become one of the world’s most popular races.
Hans Christian Andersen Festival
Place: Odense. Dates: TBD
The Hans Christian Andersen Festival offers fairytales, imagination, adventure and wonder. Prepare plenty of cabaret shows, concerts, parades, artistic experiences and tents around the city in all of Odense's major squares. Both known and unknown artists will perform throughout the week.
European Medieval Festival
Place: Horsens. Dates: 30 – 31 August 2024
For two days in August, the Middle Ages are resurrected within the walls at FÆNGSLET in Horsens, when traders, craftsmen, musicians, buskers, knights and other good men and women head towards the town castle to participate in the annual medieval market and see the tempting stalls, musicians, street performers, and grand jousting tournaments.
Copenhagen Cooking and Food Festival
Place: Copenhagen. Dates: 16 – 25 August 2024
Look forward to one of the biggest food festivals in Northern Europe and an open-source festival that profiles Danish gastronomy by paying homage to the food culture, Nordic cuisine and key players on the gastronomic stage. Tons of food events are held in different restaurants, bars and more across the city.
Tønder Folk Festival
Place: Tønder. Dates: 21 – 24 August 2024
The Tønder Folk Festival in South West Jutland is one of the greatest European musical events with a reputation for attracting exceptional international folk musicians. The festival covers a wide range of folk music from blues, bluegrass, singer-songwriters, and traditional Irish, English and American folk music.
Aarhus Festival
Place: Aarhus. Dates: TBD
The week-long Aarhus Festival is among the largest cultural events in Scandinavia and showcases local, national and international talent across various genres of art, gastronomy and music. It is highly esteemed and recognised both in Denmark and abroad.
YETI Adventure Challenge
Place: Silkeborg. Dates: TBD
YETI Adventure Challenge is a unique 24-hour adventure race combining various outdoor sports. The competitors face numerous challenges, including mountain biking, canoeing, climbing, swimming, kayaking, and rafting. The event is Denmark's largest outdoor event and has attendance from the world’s leading adventure racers.
WATERZ Festival
Place: Hvide Sande. Dates: 6 – 8 September
WATERZ is Scandinavia's biggest water sports festival, which takes place in the unique nature area of Hvide Sande.
Generator Festival
Place: Odense. Dates: TBD
Generator Festival in Odense is a party for all of the city’s students. The festival celebrates the beginning of the school year and is the largest street party in Denmark. You'll see the streets of Odense as you've never seen them before. Every day, the festival takes over new streets, with new stages and new artists.
Rømø Kite Festival
Place: Rømø. Dates: 6 – 8 September 2024
In September, you can experience being surrounded by thousands of colourful kites when the Rømø Kite Festival on the scenic island of Rømø in South West Jutland takes place. The festival attracts kite enthusiasts worldwide with up to 40,000-50,000 visitors each day – now Northern Europe’s biggest kite festival.
Midtfyns Festival
Place: Ringe. Dates 5 – 7 September 2024
Midtfyns Festival is back in its usual place at Dyrskuepladsen in Ringe, Funen. It's all about creating a sense of togetherness, being present and enjoying each other's company. Play board games or cards, enjoy a beer and enjoy the festival's tunes.
Tour de Gudenå
Place: Gudenåen. TBD
Tour de Gudenå is a kayaking, stand-up-paddling and canoe marathon race; there are three routes – the longest being 70 km and the shorter two, 42 km and 23 km, respectively. The routes start from Silkeborg and wind up the Gudenå towards Randers.
Gourmet Rally
Place: Silkeborg. Date: 14 September 2024
The essence of the Gourmet Rally is in all its simplicity about enjoying life through nature, wine and gastronomy. Participants will enjoy a well-planned menu with paired beverages in the tasting pavilions on the 6.5 km walk around Almind Lake.
Nordby Wooldays Fanø
Place: Fanø. Dates: TBD
Nordby Wooldays Fanø is taking over from the popular knitting festival Fanø Strikkefeatival, which has been running for 20 years. Expect workshops, shows, food, music and lots of knitting hygge.
Denmark's Outdoor Festival
Place: Ry. Dates: 20 – 22 September 2024
The festival is all about getting in touch with nature. Through various activities, attendees will experience how outdoor activities can inspire a focus on health and well-being. A network of skilled instructors will guide the attendees in a wide range of modes of movement in the unique nature of Ry.
Grasp festival by Roskilde
Place: Roskilde. Dates: 28 – 29 September
This festival aims to boost sustainable change. Science, art and activism are merged in unexpected ways to generate new ideas and point to sustainable solutions for the urgent issues of our time.
